Lets Talk About Waterskiing
Ballet and Swivel
What can we say about the ballet line? They
are a bunch of girls. This is a very good
thing because nobody wants to see a bunch
of hairy guys in wigs trying to kick gracefully.
I feel sick just thinking about it. If you
have the stomach to hear about "The Guys' Ballet Line" go right ahead and read about it. The Aberdeen
Aqua Addicts Girls' Ballet line has become
very good. They were probably one of the
best at 1997's Regionals but their lack of
numbers hampered their score. They did well
in 1998 but some unfortunate falls hurt their
score at Regionals. In 1999 fate again struck
a blow against the ballet line when half
the line mysteriously came unhooked from
the leader piece as the ropes began to leave
the dock. The Ballet Line did very well in 2001, 2002, 2003, and 2004
as the line took first in their region and division. The Ballet Line had a chance to
compete at a national level in their division in 2004 for unfortunately misfortune
reared its ugly head again. The leaders got tangled for the first time all year
and when one part of the line needed to be pinned it ended up taking out the whole line!
The swivel skiing is probably the most hair-brained ideas in waterskiing.
Don't get me wrong
it is a very pretty and graceful sport, but just think of the nature of the idea. First you take a ballet line ski and then attach a binding that spins in a circle
to it. So now instead of a girl standing on one foot on a plank of wood with her other foot tied to the boat, now you have all that and the foot on the board
is free to spin in circles. All teasing aside, the Aqua Addicts swivelers have come a long way in just a few
years though. We are proud of them and believe without
a doubt that they are way way better than
Todd. Want to hear about that? Our swivelers have been able to get some
toe turns and several have completed hand
to hand 360s and Overhead 360s. One swiveler is even completing 720s on occasion!
