basing
(v) to base pyramid; to be in the bottom tier
board

boom
(n) metal pole attached to the side of a boat; often used for learning barefooting
butt-shorts
(n) padded barefoot shorts; gives an extra layer of neoprine and padding used to increase sweet spot and to prevent bruising during deep water starts
Cheeking out
(v) during barefooting, the action of getting outside the wake and into the curl before standing up
Chop
(n) ruff water; caused by wind or boat traffic
the Curl
(n) the area just outside the wake
deep water
1.(n) Type of start not from dock or shore; often in deep water; often refers to barefooting
2.(adj) starting in deepwater; describes start
double wide
(n) a waterski about twice as wide as a normal ski; used for basing pyramids and for straps, conventionals, and balletline
drain
(v) to empty water from your suit
drop
(v) letting go of the rope on purpose
dyne
(n) short for hydrodyne; boat made for showskiing often with multiple rigging; aka twin-rig, tri-rig
extension
(n) piece of rope that ski ropes can attach to

(n) a non-USCGA vest for floatation aid
glass
(adj) water that is smooth
home
(n) shore location for starting and ending
hylon
(n) a tall pylon often used for wakeboarding, airchair, and backdeeps
invert
(adj) any trick that involves flipping
jacket
(n) a lifejacket
jump
1.(n) a wedge with a wooden surface coated in wax that skiers ski over
2.(v) to go over a jump
Long Line
(adj) type of skiing behind the boat
neoprine
(n) type of rubber used in wetsuits and some drysuits
pin
(n) device used to unhook straps from the boat for safety
pylon
(n) metal pole in center of the boat that ski ropes are hooked to (or extensions)
rig
(n) engine(s), steering, throttle(s) and all the stuff in between
run
(n) skiing from the time you get out of the water to the time you fall back into it
shell
(n) boat without riging
short line
(adj) skiing with handle and about 2 feet of rope attached to the end of the boom
stoked
(adj) wakeboarding term for excited, happy ie. "I'm totally stoked"
strap
(n) harness that connects skier directly to rope connected to the boat leaving hands free
suit
1.(n)outfit meant to keep skier warm in cold water; come in long, short, and long-john wetsuits or drysuit either neoprine or plastic

sweet spot
(n) spot on butt where friction is lowest; leads to longer skidding and easier tumble turns
take-off section
(n) section on a take-off rope that can be attached to the boat causing shorter rope

(n) area of water between wakes in which water is usually a white color due to many tiny air bubbles
